Re: Group Insurance Rate Changes for 2026-2027
Group Insurance Managers would like to advise members of some important information regarding Insurance Premiums for the 2026-27 fiscal year. This process involves matching premiums with anticipated claims and expenses. For the upcoming year, rates members are currently paying for certain coverages will not be changing. Some premiums will change and these adjustments are explained below.
Basic Life Insurance will decrease by 1.9%, which will translate to a decrease of $0.08 per deduction (24 pay periods) for a member with an $80,000 salary/pension or $0.05 per deduction for a member with a $50,000 salary/pension. Dependent Life will also see a $0.02 decrease per deduction. Voluntary Life Insurance will see no change, while Post 65 Life Insurance will see an increase of 6% or $1.86 per deduction.
Premium rates for Basic and Voluntary Accidental Death and Dismemberment, and Basic Critical Illness will not be changing.
Voluntary Critical Illness rates will increase by 33%. Managers recognize that this is a substantial increase but rates have not changed in the past 3 years and claims and costs have exceeded premiums in each of these years.
Long Term Disability rates will be increasing this year by approximately 12.2%. This translates into an increase of $4.70 per pay deduction for a member with a salary of $80,000. The change is a result of the LTD rate increasing from 1.153% of salary to 1.294% of salary.
Managing the cost of the Health Insurance program continues to be a focus for Group Insurance Managers this year. Health premiums will increase by $1.27 per deduction for single coverage and $1.49 per deduction for family coverage.
There will be no changes to the Dental Insurance premium rates.
